The Challenge

Surgical teams were tracking instrument sterilization, cart builds, and procedure readiness on paper or disconnected systems — creating risk in high-stakes, time-critical environments.

02 — Process

My Approach

Designed a step-based workflow interface that mirrored the physical sequence of surgical prep: Decontamination → Build Sets → Sterilization → Build Carts → Pre-Surgery → Live Surgery → Post-Surgery. Each phase surfaced only the relevant data to reduce cognitive load under pressure.

03 — Outcome

Results

Instrument tracking errors reduced by 40%. OR turnover time improved by 12 minutes per case. Adopted across a 6-hospital health system within the first year.
